A note about Volterra operators on weighted Banach spaces of entire functions

We characterize boundedness, compactness and weak compactness of Volterra operators acting between different weighted Banach spaces of entire functions with sup‐norms in terms of the symbol g; thus we complement recent work by Bassallote, Contreras, Hernández‐Mancera, Martín and Paul 3 for spaces of holomorphic functions on the disc and by Constantin and Peláez 16 for reflexive weighted Fock spaces.     

A mean value theorem for metric spaces

We present a form of the Mean Value Theorem (MVT) for a continuous function f between metric spaces, connecting it with the possibility to choose the relation of f in a homeomorphic way. We also compare our formulation of the MVT with the classic one when the metric spaces are open subsets of Banach spaces. As a consequence, we derive a version of the Mean Value Propriety for measure spaces that also possesses a compatible metric structure.     

Symmetrisers and generalised solutions for strictly hyperbolic systems with singular coefficients

This paper is devoted to strictly hyperbolic systems and equations with non‐smooth coefficients. Below a certain level of smoothness, distributional solutions may fail to exist. We construct generalised solutions in the Colombeau algebra of generalised functions. Extending earlier results on symmetric hyperbolic systems, we introduce generalised strict hyperbolicity, construct symmetrisers, prove an appropriate Gårding inequality and establish existence, uniqueness and regularity of generalised solutions. Under additional regularity assumptions on the coefficients, when a classical solution of the Cauchy problem (or of a transmission problem in the piecewise regular case) exists, the generalised solution is shown to be associated with the classical solution (or the piecewise classical solution satisfying the appropriate transmission conditions).     

Fine singularity analysis of solutions to the Laplace equation

We present here a fine singularity analysis of solutions to the Laplace equation in special polygonal domains in the plane. We assume piecewise constant Neumann data on one component of the boundary. Well‐posedness and approximation of solutions of linear divergence‐form elliptic problems on exterior regions

This paper describes well‐posedness, spectral representations, and approximations of solutions of uniformly elliptic, second‐order, divergence form elliptic boundary value problems on exterior regions U in when N ≥ 3. Inhomogeneous Dirichlet, Neumann, and Robin boundary conditions are treated. These problems are first shown to be well‐posed in the space E¹(U) of finite‐energy functions on U using variational methods. Spectral representations of these solutions involving Steklov eigenfunctions and solutions subject to zero Dirichlet boundary conditions are described. Some approximation results for the A‐harmonic components are obtained. Positivity and comparison results for these solutions are given. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

Towards a quaternionic function theory linked with the Lamé's wave functions

Over the past few years, considerable attention has been given to the role played by the Lamé's Wave Functions (LWFs) in various problems of mathematical physics and mechanics. The LWFs arise via the method of separation of variables for the wave equation in ellipsoidal coordinates. The present paper introduces the Lamé's Quaternionic Wave Functions (LQWFs), which extend the LWFs to a non‐commutative framework. We show that the theory of the LQWFs is determined by the Moisil‐Theodorescu type operator with quaternionic variable coefficients. As a result, we explain the connections between the solutions of the Lamé's wave equation, on one hand, and the quaternionic hyperholomorphic and anti‐hyperholomorphic functions on the other. We establish analogues of the basic integral formulas of complex analysis such as Borel‐Pompeiu's, Cauchy's, and so on, for this version of quaternionic function theory. We further obtain analogues of the boundary value properties of the LQWFs such as Sokhotski‐Plemelj formulae, the ‐hyperholomorphic extension of a given Hölder function and on the square of the singular integral operator. We address all the text mentioned earlier and explore some basic facts of the arising quaternionic function theory. We conclude the paper showing that the spherical, prolate, and oblate spheroidal quaternionic wave functions can be generated as particular cases of the LQWFs. On the stability of impulsive functional differential equations with infinite delays

In this paper, the stability problem of impulsive functional differential equations with infinite delays is considered. By using Lyapunov functions and the Razumikhin technique, some new theorems on the uniform stability and uniform asymptotic stability are obtained. Trace formulas for additive and non-additive perturbations

Trace formulas for pairs of self-adjoint, maximal dissipative and accumulative as well as other types of resolvent comparable operators are obtained. In particular, the existence of a complex-valued spectral shift function for a pair {H^′,H}$\{H^{\prime },H\}$ of maximal accumulative operators has been proved. We investigate also the existence of a real-valued spectral shift function. Moreover, we treat in detail the case of additive trace class perturbations. Assuming that H   and H^′=H+V$H^{\prime }=H+V$ are maximal accumulative and V is trace class, we prove the existence of a summable   complex-valued spectral shift function. We also obtain trace formulas for pairs {H,H^?}$\{H,H^{?}\}$assuming only that H and  H^?$H^{?}$are resolvent comparable. In this case the determinant of the characteristic function of H is involved in trace formulas.     

Amenability properties of Banach algebra valued continuous functions

Let X be a compact Hausdorff space and A   a Banach algebra. We investigate amenability properties of the algebra C(X,A)$C(X,A)$ of all A  -valued continuous functions. We show that C(X,A)$C(X,A)$ has a bounded approximate diagonal if and only if A has a bounded approximate diagonal; if A   has a compactly central approximate diagonal (unbounded) then C(X,A)$C(X,A)$ has a compactly approximate diagonal. Weak amenability of C(X,A)$C(X,A)$ for commutative A is also considered.
